The ears make him a bit rabbity. However, in thinking about it, do you remember the Margot Austin illustrations? (She did a LOT of work for Jack and Jill magazine back in the day, and a couple wonderful picture books about Peter Churchmouse. Your little guy looks not unlike Master Peter! Google her!

Love those old illustrations. I just saw new editions of Ferdinand the Bull, and Ping, in a really really large format, in Barnes and Noble I think, and I really really wanted them! Cooler heads prevailed, however.
